Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College Community Needs and Assessment Survey.
Williams, D. C., Jr.; And Others
A community needs assessment study was conducted by Mississippi Gulf Coast Junior College (MGCJC) to obtain information for program planning and evaluation. Specifically, the study sought to identify educational needs not being met in the district; determine the general attitude of the community toward MGCJC; and measure the impact of the college on the district. Surveys of several groups were conducted to meet these objectives, including (1) a survey of 462 citizens from the four-county MGCJC district; (2) personal interviews with 39 district employers; (3) a survey of 50 public officials; (4) a survey of a sample of 21 civic leaders; (5) a survey of 8,106 high school juniors; (6) a survey of 256 high school teachers and counselors; (7) a survey of 381 MGCJC students representing all six campuses and centers; (8) a survey of 534 MGCJC employees; and (9) a survey of a random sample of 463 former MGCJC students. The study report presents the results of the nine surveys separately, including raw responses for the questionnaire items. The results indicate that the people of the district are proud of MGCJC, are interested in improving education, and are willing to support its efforts to meet the educational needs in the district.
