Attitudes of University of Minnesota students toward student services and the fees for these services were surveyed in Fall 1983. A total of 476 students at the Twin Cities campus were interviewed by telephone. A majority of respondents were willing to pay in order to maintain current levels of service. A majority preferred a fee system with a lower mandatory fee and more user fees over the current larger mandatory fee. Forty-two percent said that they were doing all right with their expenses. Students assigned the highest priority for fee funding to services that help students with problems at the university (66 percent). High priority was also assigned to the student health service (58 percent) and student unions (54 percent). Increased support was expressed for new recreational sports facilities. Additionally, students were asked how much they agreed or disagreed with a series of positive statements about advising, registration, student activities, and fee payment. In general, students had a positive view of these basic services. Student satisfaction with the Minnesota Public Interest Research Group and opinions on how the organization should be funded were also assessed.
