VTAE Economic Development Project. Final Report.
Klitzke, Elizabeth
A project was undertaken to redefine the role of vocational, technical, and adult education (VTAE) in economic development in Wisconsin. Included among the objectives of the project were the following: to produce a statewide plan for economic development identifying new linkages among business, industry, labor, and the VTAE system; to develop strategies for VTAE involvement in the plan; to outline the role of vocational education in technology transfer; to prepare information papers on topics such as job market trends, entrepreneurial activities, and barriers to quick response VTAE delivery systems; to identify future occupational training needs, and to conduct an economic development conference at the conclusion of the project to present the plan. During the project, a task force known as Commission '85 was formed to examine the role of VTAE in economic development. The commission met five times in the spring of 1983 to prepare a document entitled "A Plan for Economic Development: New Linkages Between Business, Industry, Labor and the VTAE System." The plan was presented at an economic development conference in June 1983. The task force continues to function as a working mechanism for interaction between government agency staff; vocational educators; and representatives of business, industry, and labor. (MN)
