A Systems Approach to the Preparation and Conduct of Trade and Industrial Training.
Campbell, Clifton P.
The Instructional Systems Development (ISD) approach for the accomplishment of vocational training programs provides a methodology for gathering and analyzing job information, for developing instructional materials and media, for conducting instruction, and for evaluating and improving the effectiveness of training programs. Included in the ISD procedural model are the following five phases: analysis (establishment of what constitutes adequate job performance); design (development of terminal and enabling learning objectives based upon job performance measures); development (identification of appropriate learning activities, selection of media, and development of instructional materials); implementation (identification and correction of any discrepancies or deficiencies in the total training program and also completion of all necessary staff training procedures); and control (evaluation of the operational effectiveness of the program as a dynamic interrelated entity). Appendixes to this report contain a glossary, a job performance measure, a learning objective analysis worksheet, a glossary of action verbs, a training program planning worksheet, and a guide for evaluating instruction.
