A Manual for Post-Secondary Displaced Homemaker Programs.
Dahlberg, Maurine
To fulfill one objective of the Post-Secondary Displaced Homemaker Project conducted by Central Texas College, this technical manual was written to assist Texas community colleges in setting up and operating displaced homemaker programs. The manual was developed through a review of current, applicable literature, as well as input from the project's six-member statewide advisory committee and other personnel. The technical manual includes an overview of the problems faced by displaced homemakers and the ways in which displaced homemaker programs may help them. Suggestions are given to beginning programs in the areas of hiring staff members, organizing an advisory committee, setting up office facilities, recruiting and training volunteers, developing intake and recordkeeping systems, designing an evaluation plan, and acquiring clients for the program. Information also is given on the topics of meeting displaced homemakers' survival needs, effectively counseling displaced homemakers on personal matters and job decisions, and preparing displaced homemakers for the work world. Suggestions are given for providing auxiliary services for displaced homemakers; costs and benefits of operating a displaced homemaker program within a community college are discussed. References and sample forms also are included in the manual. (KC)
