The Santa Barbara County Environmental Education Outdoor School Program provides for conduct of programs and classes in outdoor science and conservation. The aim of the school is to increase the maturity and awareness of students to man's role in ecology and the world of nature around us. This handbook for teachers will assist in the preparation for a week at the Outdoor School. The handbook includes the following: daily/weekly schedule of activities; general program notes; an annotated environmental education schedule; forms (medication, class health summary sheet, cabin group assignments); serving individuals with exceptional needs; preparing the class for the Outdoor School (vocabulary and concepts, activities outside the classroom, potential resource people in the community, discipline policy, social preparation); role of cabin leaders; what to take; special activities; two teachers' weekly schedule and responsibilities charts; health policies; environmental master medications list; interim operational emergency procedures; disaster emergency procedures; and two maps of the Outdoor School. The supplement to the manual provides a check-list of principal's responsibilities, a sample environmental education program bulletin, a bird identification activity, and 34 examples of plant communities of Santa Barbara County.
