How to Implement Support Services for NonTraditional Students. Teams for NonTraditional. Final Report.
Tipton, Bettie
Based on the experience of Teams of NonTraditionals Support Network at Jefferson State Vocational Technical School (Kentucky), this manual is designed to help teachers and administrators to implement a support system for nontraditional students (primarily females in traditional male fields) in vocational and technical education programs. The manual consists of 15 chapters. The first six chapters provide information on planning and implementing the support teams. These chapters cover the need for support for nontraditional students, planning to implement the teams, teacher orientation to the teams, preparing students for team leader responsibilities, duties of the team leader, and the role of the team leader. The last nine chapters provide topics and articles for discussion in team group support meetings. These chapters include men's and women's roles, interviewing tips for nontraditional workers, a recipe for happiness, how to be a winner, assertiveness training (including exercises), the legal definitions of sexual harassment, new job anxiety, and teasing and testing on a new assignment. (These topics were selected on the basis of questions that team leaders asked during the field test of the project.) (KC)
