These 26 modules for independent study comprise the second volume of a two-volume set of HERO (Home Economics Related Occupations) HELPS for student use in competency-based professional development. Each module contains teacher and student materials. Teacher materials include an information sheet listing resources and materials needed by students, an application (student evaluation instrument) with answer key, and a job advancement (more detailed student evaluation instrument) with answer key. Student materials include an outline of student activities (detailing job competencies covered in the module, learning activities to be completed, an optional extra credit activity) and information sheets. The 26 modules are categorized under five HERO areas: General (communicating to employers, communicating with customers, communication from employers, communicating with coworkers, communication on the job, dressing for an interview, positive attitude, basic math--figuring discounts, overcoming barriers to upward communication, using the telephone, job interview, you and your boss), food service (introduction to garnishes, simple garnishes, complex garnishes, cake decorating, basic tools for cooking, commercial kitchen appliances), child care (establishing a day care center, day care state regulations, science projects for preschoolers, supervising dramatic play, bulletin boards), floristry (terrarium), and health care aid (bed bath, bed making--unoccupied).
