The Writing Processes of Young Children: A Review of Related Research.
Moss, R. Kay
The designs, procedures, and findings of a number of studies related to the writing processes of elementary school children are reviewed in this paper. The first section of the paper discusses the rationale of the literature review and the search procedures employed, while the second section summarizes the characteristics of the studies examined under the following headings: (1) writing processes in the prewriting, composing, and postwriting phases; (2) developmental stages in the writing process; (3) environmental variables; and (4) internal variables. The final section of the paper discusses implications of the research reviewed for classroom practices; for future research, including a list of questions researchers need to investigate; and for future reviews of writing process research.
