Development of a Model Network of University/Community Team Leadership. Final Report.
Akron Univ., OH.
The development of a model network for team leadership by the University of Akron and community agencies is described. The major program objectives were to increase understanding of: interpersonal and intragroup dynamics; organizational development and collaborative planned change; and issues at the local, regional, and national levels that relate to community and community agency improvement. After an outline of planning activities, information is presented on the curriculum, teaching/learning approaches, scheduling, the impact of the mix of participants, and special modules, including "Community Leaders" and "Goals for the Greater Akron Area." Study action groups focused on needs assessment and action strategies pertaining to the Akron image, training/education, and university/community programs. Internships were offered to enable participants to promote cooperation among community and university agencies and individuals. Internship topics, resource persons, and criteria used in evaluating internship applications are identified. Participants' evaluation of the program concentrated on the meaning of the sessions for individuals and members' perceptions of the growth of the group over time. An executive summary of an external evaluation that focused on the impact of the program on participants and on the university and community is included. Publications, papers, and workshop presentations completed during the program are listed, and program goals, objectives, and outcomes are reviewed. Newspaper clippings on the program, newsletters, course descriptions, and other materials are appended. (SW)
