This handbook for school administrators and cooperative education coordinators describes State of New York cooperative occupational education programs. It is divided into three sections that focus on program administration, program organization, and program operation. Section 1, Program Administration, presents a philosophy of cooperative education, lists advantages of cooperative occupational education programs, and provides descriptions of cooperative education programs for agriculture education; business, marketing, and distributive education; home economics education; health occupations education; and trade and technical education. Other focuses are scheduling alternatives, teacher-coordinator's role and qualifications, budgeting, and funding. Section 2, Program Organization, discusses guidelines for student enrollment, suggestions for student recruitment and enrollment, finding prospective employers, training stations, advisory councils and consultant committees, legal considerations, credit, organization of related general instruction, Occupational Education Reporting System, records and reports, and student organizations. Topics covered in section 3, Program Operation, include placement, training agreements and plans, student job supervision, steps in creating and maintaining a program, safety, and public relations. A calendar for coordinators is provided. Appendixes, amounting to approximately one-half of the guide, include a glossary, sample forms, and resources. (YLB)
