The systematic investigation of children's development along cognitive, affective, and moral dimensions has illuminated the nature of maturation and the problems associated with this process. To study the relationship between child development and parent behavior, a method was designed for the systematic observation of parental behavior. Subsequently, the Checklist For Parents of Preadolescent Children, based on parents' self-reported behaviors, evolved, with potential use as an aid in the development and implementation of parent education programs. A pilot test of the questionnaire was conducted to determine its reliability. Parenting behaviors were found to be related to knowledge of preadolescent growth, communication skills, and stress management techniques.
