This literature review, part of the Project BORN FREE training series for teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents, focuses on career socialization of adolescent boys and girls. In this review, conceptual models, theories of socialization, and empirical studies pertinent to secondary-age students are examined. The major topics address the areas of sex-role stereotyping in schools, self-concept, locus of control, achievement motivation, psychological barriers, career information processing, influences on career development, and interventions to reduce sex bias in career options.
