Descriptions are provided for the courses in the College of San Mateo's new Humanities program. As introductory material notes, these team-taught, interdisciplinary courses were designed to be taken independently in various combinations depending upon the student's major or interests. They carry three units of transferable credit and satisfy general education requirements. The course descriptions provide a varying amount of detail on the topics covered and instructional methods and resources used for the following: (1) "Introduction to Humanities," a two-semester history of Europe; (2) "Man and the Cosmos," which covers Greek mythological and philosophical traditions; (3) "Man and His Creative Endeavors," which traces the development of art and architecture; (4) "Man and Nature," which focuses on the pre-17th century scientific, intellectual, and social climate; (5) "Man and Man," which looks at themes of protest and heroes; (6) "Technology, Contemporary Society, and Human Values"; (7) "Technological Alternatives for a Humanistic Society"; (8) "Images of Nature," which considers artistic and scientific views; (9) "Science and Culture," a combined television/lecture course; (10) "Comparative Mythology: African and Native American Views"; (11) "African Americans--Their History, Values, Religion, and Aesthetics"; (12) "Cultures of Native, Mexican, and Latin Americans"; (13) "Cultural Achievements of Asian Americans"; and (14) "Creative Women in Modern Times."
