Information on 41 state government training and development programs was gathered from a survey sent to training directors in all state governments. This digest summarizes the response of each state training director to the survey. Each state summary contains information on the four major topical areas addressed in the survey and is designed to permit state-by-state comparisons of existing programs. The four major areas of information provided for each state training program are the organizational structure of the state's training and development department; the training director's background, experience, and function; the resources and services available for sharing with training departments in other states; and sources of revenue. A brief overall view of the state of the art of training programs in the states is given preceding the digests, and the name, address, and telephone number of a contact person for each state is provided.
