Diagnostic & Prescriptive Teaching: A Self-Directed Program for Staff Development. Bulletin 1976, No. 7.
Alabama State Dept. of Education, Montgomery. Div. of Administration and Finance.
This handbook on diagnostic-prescriptive teaching was designed as a self-directed, individualized staff development program for teachers. Three packets are included in the handbook: (1) Diagnosis: Collecting and Reporting Data, (2) Analysis, and (3) Prescriptive Teaching. The six modules presented in Packet One address aptitude testing, achievement test data, personal data, preference profiles, norm referenced and informal reading tests, and norm referenced and criterion referenced mathematics tests. The three modules presented in the Analysis packet focus on using diagnostic information; analyzing data, selecting teaching materials, and choosing alternate teaching procedures. The Prescriptive Teaching packet is comprised of two modules which address writing performance objectives, classroom organization, developing appropriate teaching strategies, evaluation, and prescriptive writing. Each module contains a rationale or introduction, objectives, directions for use, supportive information or examples, learning activities, answers for the learning activities, and self-assessment guidelines.
