Far From the Ivory Tower: A Review of Research on Women and Education in New Zealand.
Bunce, Jenny
An academic review of research on the education of women in New Zealand is presented. Available sources of information on this topic are described, focusing soley on published materials. In a discussion of influences on research on women's education, it is pointed out that the major stimulus for this research comes not from the academic world but rather from women active in the feminist movement. Women's associations and conventions have generated a large portion of the published research reports. A brief analysis is presented on the effects of sex stereotyping in children's books and the media. It is suggested that social bias as reflected in these sources influences female choices of school subjects and careers. The role and status of women in the educational work force is explored. A bibliography of references on this topic is included. (JD)
