Teacher Inservice Training Costs: A Staff Study.
Fennell, B. H.; And Others
The purpose of this study was to assess, in a preliminary way, the costs of teacher professional development and inservice training related to the implementation of new instructional programs. The study addressed two issues: the estimated expenditures by Alberta school boards on teacher inservice programs in the most recent fiscal period and the probable costs to the provincial budget of implementing alternative new programs and inservice strategies. Results of the province-wide survey are presented in tabular form. The appendices contain excerpts from the Program Accounting and Budgeting Manual of the Alberta Department of Education, a review of the literature, alternative teacher inservice programs, and estimations of professional development expenditures by teacher associations and school authorities.
