Montana State Office of the Commissioner of Higher Education, Helena.
Data on higher education enrollment in Montana for fall 980 are analyzed and compared with that of previous years. For 1980, 81.4 percent of the enrolled students attended the Montana University System, 9.2 percent attended independent colleges, and 9.4 percent attended community colleges. The enrollment rate of both institution and sector for 1979 and 1980 is compared, and the percent distribution of enrollment for state universities is indicated for 1975-81. Enrollment by class and level for each sector is compared for 1979 and 1980, and the data indicate that 88.9 percent of students are undergraduates, 5.6 percent are graduate students, and 5.4 percent are classified as post-baccalaureate and miscellaneous. Information is included on the distribution of enrollment by sex, in-migration of transfer students by a receiving institution for 1979 and 1980, the net effect of these transfers within the state, the percent distribution of in-state and out-of-state students by institution and sector for 1979 and 1980, first-time freshmen, and credit hour load by campus and level. Consolidated enrollment data from the 13 higher education institutions in Montana are appended. (SW)
