It is apparent that the circumstances and environments that surround getting an education in this generation are more complex than in any other generation. One cannot point to any one set of circumstances, curricula, or personnel and make valid generalizations about education, educators, and students. With the so called "knowledge explosion," more urbanization, revised values and standards, and more complex challenges will arise for professional educators. In the 1980's, as the school population slightly declines and the supply of teachers exceeds the demand, the profession must retool for the task of developing a viable body of practice which will stabilize the teaching profession. Some areas that will need attention and study are: teacher attitudes; student attitudes; school size; class size; inservice training; preservice training and experience; staff development; release time; staffing patterns; and course content.
