Teacher Skill Guide for Combatting Sexism. Leader's Guide.
Gollub, Wendy Leebov; And Others
The training program described consists of 13 modules designed to meet the following objectives: (1) to create an awareness, in preservice and inservice education, of the extent and consequences of sex-role stereotyping at all levels of the educational system; (2) to create an understanding among educators of the ways in which stereotypes limit the aspirations, experiences, and options of all women and men; (3) to provide educators with specific skills and behaviors for eliminating sex bias from their own classrooms; and (4) to provide educators with specific affective skills for encouraging their students to develop the internal support systems that allow for personal growth, expanded options, and role flexibility. This leader's manual provides a history of the program and suggestions on where and how the program can be used. An overview of the program modules and instructions on the structuring of the program are provided. Supplementary program materials that were developed to enhance different aspects of the program are included, as well as a bibliography of selected references on the subject of sexism. (JD)
