Teacher Skill Guide for Combatting Sexism. Module 6: The Components of a Nonsexist Person. Module 7: Teaching the Components of a Nonsexist Person.
Mulvihill, Allie Mooney; And Others
These workshop modules focus on helping teachers to expand their self image, to make explicit the mental image of a nonsexist person, and to help their students recognize and internalize their own mental pictures of nonsexist behaviors. Handouts include profiles of nonsexist behavior, fictionalized examples of nonsexist behavior, a self assessment chart, and excerpts of literature pertaining to motivation and change. Teaching strategies are outlined for making students aware of the nonsexist components. A booklet for teachers to use with their students presents classroom activities that identify and reinforce nonsexist behavior through direct and indirect approaches. (JD)
