This report describes the occupational mobility of science and engineering (S/E) personnel. This analysis is part of the National Science Foundation's Division of Science Resources Studies program designed to enhance the understanding of the operations of the S/E labor market. Charts represent information discussed in the text regarding such topics as: (1) change in economic indicators affecting S/E employment; (2) 1978 occupational distribution of 1972 occupational cohorts of experienced scientists and engineers; (3) distribution of 1972 experienced S/E work force employed in non-S/E jobs in 1978 by reason for movement; and (4) occupational mobility of experienced S/E by selected characteristics, 1972-78. Appendices include technical notes, a bibliography, and statistical tables. (CS)
