Helping Able Young Women Take Math and Science Seriously in School.
Casserly, Patricia Lund
Results of research on secondary schools with unusual success in attracting and holding young women in their mathematics and physical science curricula are presented. The selected schools were chosen based on the number and percentages of females taking the Advanced Placement Program (APP) Examinations. Using a combination of individual and group interviews, the investigation focuses on factors and influences guiding female students towards Advanced Placement (AP) courses. Suggestions for encouraging and preparing greater numbers of young women to pursue scientific or technological studies and careers are identified. (MP)
