An Evaluation of Early Education Classes in Queensland.
Turner, Terry; Miles, Jackie
This report is an evaluation of a pilot form of preschool education in Queensland, Australia. Following background information (Chapter I) about the sampling methodology used in and the administration of the study, the classroom environment and the teachers' work program are described in Chapter II. The effect of the early education classroom environment on the students is the main emphasis of Chapter III. Chapter III also reports the responses of teachers and principals to questionnaires soliciting their opinions on the success of the pilot project. Also discussed are the effects of a range of factors on the attainment of the teachers' educational aims. Areas of consensus and difference among teachers concerning the role of support services are examined in Chapter IV. Chapter V examines the part played by teacher aides and parent volunteers, and in Chapter VI the administrative difficulties faced by principals of the pilot schools are discussed. Finally, Chapter VII brings the results of the previous chapters together and attempts to form a coherent evaluation of the pilot project. (Author/MP)
