A Follow-Up Study of Non-Transfer, Academic Students from the British Columbia Community Colleges: Summary Report.
Jones, Gordon; And Others
In Fall 1979, a survey was conducted to determine the attitudes and goals of a selected sample of students who had enrolled in academic transfer programs at 13 British Columbia community colleges, but who had not transferred to a four-year institution. The 24-item questionnaire asked students to provide information on: (1) full/part-time status while at college; (2) major; (3) change to a vocational program; (4) original reason for attending college and degree to which goal was met; (5) factors influencing college choice; (6) primary reasons for withdrawal from original college and for not attending a university; (7) potential influences on furthering their education; (8) importance of selected educational objectives; (9) highest level of education expected; (10) hypothetical source of educational financing; (11) current activities; (12) educational activities; (13) interest in vocational education; (14) field of employment; (15) length of time spent looking for a job; (16) job location; (17) educational requirements for current job; (18) education/job relationship; (19) usefulness of college education in achieving selected personal goals; (20) attitudes toward community colleges; (21) sex; and (22) age. The study report, in addition to an item-by-item analysis of 3,367 responses, summarizes broad findings in terms of the college academic program, the college student, and the college concept. (JP)
