Innovation Abstracts, Volume I, Numbers 1-15.

Brief, two-page abstracts are provided for 15 educational topics of interest to community college faculty, administrators, and staff. Each abstract is coded to indicate intended audience, subject category, and level of concern. The topics covered by the abstracts are: (1) five major components of teacher evaluation; (2) writing an abstract; (3) creating a positive, non-threatening learning environment for students; (4) the role of higher education in the 1980's; (5) techniques for improving initial contacts with individuals or groups; (6) the creative use of silence in group discussions; (7) Study Unlimited, a cooperative program of Black Hawk College (IL) and the River Bend Library System; (8) the American College Testing Program's College Outcomes Measures Project, which assesses general education competencies; (9) a new definition of literacy; (10) the use of standard error in achieving fair grading practices; (11) strategies, including participatory management, for institutional change; (12) the premises, organization, and benefits of the cluster college concept at Oakton Community College (IL); (13) applications of the Cloze Procedure; (14) the statistical indicators which predict change in the educational environment; and (15) organizing effective staff development programs.
