The ten essays presented in this collection address various aspects of the relationship of the church and the community college. In the first two essays, C. Freeman Sleeper examines the challenges posed by community colleges to the church's traditional support of higher education and, then, discusses approaches to addressing the moral issues inherent in pluralistic college life. Next, David V. Tiedeman introduces a concept of career education which incorporates the psychological process of self-identification into career choice, and Kenneth N. Wood describes a "Centering-Venturing" workshop conducted to help students identify individual talents and priorities as a first step in career development. William Mamoru Shinto's discussion of the need for both church and college to foster an intercultural unity in the face of racial prejudice is followed by Dale Tillery's examination of the societal forces that determine which segments of the population will be educated and his exhortation to recognize the educability and merit of all. The essays of Edwin W. Albright and Mark Rutledge discuss the philosophy, implementation, and operation of contemporary campus ministries. Finally, Mardelle Bourdon describes the involvement of a small congregation in community education, and J. Lynn Springer presents guidelines for sustaining volunteer ministries once they are established on campus. (JP)
