Spoken Hindi-Urdu with Emphasis on Intonation in Natural Conversation.
Gambhir, Surendra K.
This book presents 20 lessons in Hindi-Urdu conversation intended for a systematic learner of the language in the latter part of the first year or the second year of study. Throughout the book, there is an emphasis on intonation. The conversations are close to natural conversations, although they are not recorded from real situations. Each conversation is marked formal, semi-formal, or informal. It is suggested that the student study the printed material first in order to become familiar with the vocabulary and grammar involved, then practice with the accompanying tapes. This work on the part of the student is to be supplemented by an hour's work in the classroom. The format of each lesson is as follows: conversation, glossary, build-up drills, intonation practice, and grammatical notes. With the exception of the grammatical notes, the lessons are in Hindi-Urdu. (AMH)
