The Classroom Survival Book. A Practical Manual for Teachers.
Maggs, Margaret Martin
The topics chosen for discussion in this handbook are those most generally of concern to teachers in their daily interaction with students, parents, and peers. The first section deals with the routines of classroom management. The importance of accurate record keeping is stressed and examples are given of how to maintain attendance rolls and permanent records. Lesson and unit plans are discussed as well as the finer points of testing and examinations. In the second section, interaction between the teacher and students is discussed with primary emphasis on the techniques for controlling behavior in the classroom and organizing activities and time to the greatest advantage. The final section is concerned with the relationships between teachers, administrators, parents, and other teachers. Each chapter contains a brief appraisal of the desired objectives of the topics and practice exercises designed to illuminate problems that arise in a typical classroom. (JD)
