You and Your Feelings About People.
Stanley, Janice; And Others
Classroom activities designed to clarify the thinking of children on the subject of prejudice are presented in this handbook. The major objectives of this module are to understand how stereotypes and prejudices are developed, influences of prejudice on self-perception, understanding the causes and origins of prejudicial behavior and ideas, and understanding the social consequences resulting from prejudicial behavior. Lessons using stories, pictures, and discussion items are presented. Topics include occupational stereotyping, and stereotyping by sex, class, race, or cultural background. Articles on the roots of prejudice and the dangers of stereotyping are included for the teacher. A bibliography of reading materials on different kinds of discrimination is also included. (JD)
