The Counseling Needs of Re-Entry Women: Field Evaluation Draft.
Weinstein, Loribeth; And Others
This guide is concerned with the increasing number of women returning to college and the need for academic, personal and vocational counseling programs specifically designed for them. Barriers are presented which affect re-entry women but which can be alleviated through counseling. A wide range of ways in which institutions can be more responsive to the concerns of re-entry women are suggested, including how to: (1) help personnel provide better services; (2) facilitate the decision to return to school; and (3) provide support and ongoing academic, personal and career counseling. Counseling and support services for special populations among re-entry women are discussed as well as sex bias in testing and the legal implications of Title IX of the Education Act of 1972 and the Age Discrimination Act of 1975, which prohibit sex and age discrimination in programs at institutions receiving federal funds.
