Redefining School Health Services: Comprehensive Child Health Care as the Framework.
Silver, George A.
Recognizing the needs, deficiencies, and diversity of school health services is prerequisite to any analysis of need. More uniform programs and more equitable access for all school children to whatever minimal standard of health services should be provided: periodic examination, some limited medical care on the school grounds, intensive health education activities in a variety of categories, and more exacting standards for the professional medical people in the school health system--both doctors and nurses. Current school health services can be extended to provide: more inclusive primary care; effective outreach and home visiting on behalf of the children; preschool examination; and assessment and primary care for preschoolers and siblings.
