The document presents the report of a conference to enable population experts in developing nations to exchange ideas regarding objectives, needs, problems, and organization of population education programs. The 25 participants included population experts from international agencies, educators, and government officials from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Fiji, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Nepal, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Korea, Sri Lanka, and Thailand. The document is presented in three major sections. Section I, General Report, presents an overview of innovative approaches to population education, alternative approaches which have been successful in specific instances, program development and implementation, teacher training, curriculum and materials development, and coordination of population programs with other educational programs. Data are presented in narrative, tabular, and outline form. Section II, Country Reports, offers specific information about the population characteristics and population education in each of the participant countries. Information is presented on population trends, socioeconomic influences, family planning, in-school population education programs, community interest in and support of population education, objectives, administrative organization and coordination, and non-formal population education efforts by community groups, special interest groups, governmental agencies, and the media. Section III presents the conference agenda, a directory of participants, excerpts from group discussion sessions, and the text of major speeches. (DB)
