This three-part report summarizes methodology and findings of three recruitment and retention studies conducted by the Bronx Community College (BCC) during 1979-1980. Part I examines a survey of enrolled students conducted to determine student attitudes toward BCC, the services that were most in demand, the reasons for attending BCC, and student ratings of 14 services provided on campus. This section includes the survey questionnaires and an item-by-item presentation of findings based on approximately 400 responses. Part II discusses a mail survey of selected 1979 Bronx high school graduates conducted to determine the reasons why students selected a City University of New York unit other than BCC, and to determine why students assigned to BCC by the University Applications Processing Center did not enroll. Findings, based on 493 responses, are presented as they relate to the adequacy of BCC's academic program, the overall reputation of the college, the convenience of its location, the lack of information about BCC, and the personal problems which prohibited enrollment. Finally, Part III examines a telephone survey conducted to determine the future educational plans of Bronx area residents and to ascertain their familiarity with BCC's location, admissions and degree requirements, and academic programs. Survey data, based on 600 completed calls, are analyzed by sex, ethnicity, and marital status. (JP)
