Statistical data and some descriptive analysis on persistence/attrition for various ethnic groups entering Michigan State University are presented. Data for students entering the university from fall 1973 to fall 1978 show that at the end of summer 1979: (1) Chicanos had the highest noncompletion rate; (2) although Whites have the highest completion rates in most years, American Indians and other Hispanics have similar rates in several of those years; (3) Asians and Blacks comprise the middle group, with similar rates in several years; and (4) the spread of attrition rates, with the exception of the rate for Chicanos, is relatively narrow (approximately 8-9 percent). Separate data are provided by ethnic group for first-time freshmen, transfers from Michigan community colleges, and transfers from other community colleges. Data are also broken down by numbers who graduated, numbers in good standing, those in academic difficulty, or not enrolled at the end of summer 1979. (SW)
