This guide for the student of Germanic languages and literatures provides an introductory selection to reference sources in the field of German literature. It also includes a selection of sources from the humanities and social sciences. The guide is divided into five sections: (1) general works, including bibliographical guides, encyclopedias, biographical sources, national bibliographies, and indexes; (2) German literature, including general bibliographical and reference works and history, fiction, drama, poetry, and translations; (3) social sciences with works in both German and English on education, statistics, political science, business and economics, geography, mythology, and folklore; (4) humanities including works in German on art, music, philosophy and religion; and (5) dictionaries, encyclopedias, bibliographies, and indexes in the field of history.
