The handbook lists services for children with special needs in the Boston public schools. The first part reviews relevant laws, including Massachusetts Chapter 766 and P.L. 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act. Two sections review the mandates of 766 for evaulation (including referral, parental notification, assessment, and individualized education program) and the appeals process. Among topics of parental involvement covered are parent and student rights, student records, advocacy, and parent councils. The organization of Massachusetts Department of Special Services is detailed, and the geographic location of nine districts is portrayed. A listing of such community resources as information and referral programs, legal aid services, and other state agencies is included along with telephone listings of State Department of Special Services and Boston public school offices.
