Model Program for Handicapped Out of School Youth--1977-81.
Saint Paul Public Schools, Minn.
The report describes the Out-of-School Youth Program, a vocationally oriented program serving 250 handicapped student dropouts in St. Paul, Minnesota, and presents a model program for handicapped out of school youth based on that existing program. The model program consists of components that focus on the following areas: basic skills, life/survival skills, social services, a home/school communication liaison, career exploration, work experience, student advocacy, child find, assessment, dissemination, and replication. It is hoped that the program will provide students with the necessary education/socialization skills to become self sufficient, income earning young adults able to compete in the job market to the best of their ability. Aspects covered include a review of the existing program, objectives and need for assistance, results and benefits expected, plan of action, and a time line. (Author/DLS)
