Proceedings. The National Conference on Testing: Uniting Testing and Teaching (3rd, Washington, D.C., March 13-14, 1980).
Bossone, Richard M., Ed.
Following opening remarks by Joseph L. Dionne, four sections of papers are presented. In part I--Testing and the Basic Skills--P. Michael Timpane and Judith Shoemaker discuss federal activities, Edwin L. West, Jr. discusses the coordination of teaching and testing, and Amelia Ashe describes testing and teaching of writing competency. Part II--Testing and Information Services--includes Congressman Ted Weiss on national truth-in-testing legislation, William W. Turnbull on the use of information for particular purposes, and Michael H. Kean on why teachers dislike testing. Part III--Testing and the Teachers--included A Strategy for Uniting Testing and the Teacher, by Roy H. Forbes, Making Tests more Meaningful for the Teacher, by Wilson Riles, and Issues in Testing: The Perspective of Organized Teachers and Professors, by James G. Ward. Speakers for Part IV--Testing and the Publisher--are Oluf M. Davidsen, Lawrence W. Feinberg, and Ralph W. Tyler. Robert L. Ebel presents a summation, and proposes that testing for determing student achievement and testing to help pupils learn supplement each other. (GDC)
