A New Teaching Approach: The Feedback Lecture.
Osterman, Dean N.; Coffey, Betty
This paper describing a newly created instructional approach developed at Oregon State University focuses on discussions of the process, a guided design decision-making strategy used by a team of instructors to design and develop the product, i.e., the feedback lecture approach, which is examined both in its developmental stage and in its measured effectiveness. The report defines the lecture method and lists its strengths and weaknesses, offers some suggestions on improving the lecture technique, provides background information on the feedback lecture, describes the guided design steps for creating the feedback lecture, identifies steps in decision making, details guided design steps used to arrive at a solution, and discusses the evaluation of feedback lectures. Appendices provide a study guide sample from a feedback lecture and a case study of the feedback lecture in practice. References are listed. (FM)
