This workbook designed for a basic library skills course at the University of Missouri also serves as a component for other library use and research courses. It is structured to introduce the student at Missouri to the efficient and effective use of its libraries and their resources and to provide elementary instruction in the research process. The workbook is divided into chapters for which individual assignments have been prepared. The assignments are based solely on the respective chapters and require actual use of the university library. The individual chapters cover the card catalog, the subject catalog, classification systems, location of library materials, encyclopedias, dictionaries, biographical sources, almanacs, atlases, periodicals and newspaper indexes, serials, reviews, plot summaries and pamphlets, and government documents.
