Recreation as a Related Service in PL 94-142.
Coyne, Phyllis; And Others
The paper recommends areas for consideration by the Oregon State Department of Education for providing recreational services as outlined in PL 94-142, the Education for All Handicapped Children Act. Four service areas are defined (assessment of leisure function, therapeutic recreation services, leisure education, and recreation programs in school and community agencies); and the role of the therapeutic recreation specialist in the schools is discussed. Tables present examples of a leisure lifestyle assessment and individual education program, and a chart outlining developmental levels of play (birth to 10 years and up). Guidelines for modifying games and activities for the handicapped are offered, and resources for community recreation and camps for handicapped children are listed. A selected bibliography concludes the document. (SBH)
