Language Experience--Vol. II.
Biestman, Margot
The discussion and activities in this booklet are designed to "tune in" language arts teachers to children's language so that they appreciate and respond properly to student language development. Chapter topics include responding to authentic/inauthentic child language, keeping records of children's spontaneous language and relating the words to basal readers and word lists, transferring key words from children's spontaneous language to "word banks," relating spontaneous language to decoding skills, teaching encoding skills for speech and writing, relating child language to other skills and activities, and using oral reading in language and mathematics activities. Appendixes contain a lesson plan for language workshops, a list of the 250 most commonly used words, and D. D. Durrell's list of rhyming phonograms in high frequency words. (RL)
