1977-1978 Final Evaluation Report of Career Education (Project E.P.I.C.). Report #24.
Wilson, Jackie
Project EPIC (Educational Preparation for Involvement in Careers) was conducted to study the best methods and techniques of infusing career education into the curriculum in five schools with high proportion of low-income children in the Jefferson County School System (Kentucky). The project had five basic goals: (1) provide low income children with a career education environment and varied experiences that will enable them to increase basic academic skills, awareness of work values, awareness/knowledge about work, career decision-making skills, and improve self concept; (2) provide school staff with the necessary career education knowledge, skills, and understanding; (3) to provide the community with the necessary knowledge, skills, and understanding; (4) provide dissemination of the project's model, processes, materials, and techniques; and (5) provide effective and efficient management of the career education program through the use of an information-based decision-making model. The Careers Test, developed by Behavioral Research Associates, was used to measure learner outcomes. Students were grouped according to amount of exposure to career education. Scores were compared between exposure groups, low, medium, and high. Data sources for the process evaluation included teacher questionnaires, teacher interviews, and surveys to students and parents. (The body of the report is organized so that each goal area is broken down into five specific objectives for that area, and a brief description of the results is presented for each objective. More complete data for each of the result areas are appended.) (BM)
