Statewide Longitudinal Study: Report on Academic Year 1979-80. Part III--Fall Results.
Hunter, Russell; Sheldon, M. Stephen
This three-part report describes the data collected during Fall 1979 in a longitudinal study of 5,892 students at 15 California community colleges. Chapter I describes the background of the study in terms of the research procedures used (i.e., sampling, interviewing, data collection instruments, data transmittal and analysis); goals and objectives; and the progress made in 1978-79 towards meeting these objectives. Chapter II describes and compares vocational and non-vocational students and students in attendance in Fall 1979 and former students not in attendance at that time. Tables provide comparisons in terms of demographic variables of age, sex, marital status, and dependents; work variables, such as job type, wages, and courses' relatedness to career; and academic variables, including courses attempted and passed, grade point average, major, goals, and current activities. Chapter III offers descriptions, data, and comparisons, when appropriate, of the following special student groups: financially disadvantaged, educationally disadvantaged, limited English speaking, displaced homemakers, non-traditional majors, ethnic populations (i.e., American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian/Pacific Islander, Black, Hispanic, White, and other), and the handicapped.
