As an information resource for legislators and the general public, this report describes the goals, organization, characteristics, and financial status of the Florida Community Colleges (FCC). After introductory material outlining the history of the FCC system since 1957, the report discusses the commitment of the colleges to the provision of comprehensive post-secondary education within commuting distance of all citizens. Policies designed to achieve this objective are enumerated, followed by brief descriptions of the state and local agencies involved in community college governance. Next, the report describes efforts toward the improved articulation of FCC courses and services with Florida's secondary and higher education institutions, and then discusses the statewide planning of vocational, adult, and community education programs within the system. The bulk of the report consists of 29 tables providing statistical data related to enrollment; occupational, apprenticeship, and developmental programs; degrees awarded; semester hours attempted and earned; teacher salaries; the General Current Fund; the Restricted Current Fund; educational and general expenditures; unexpected plant fund additions and expenditures; full costs; and direct costs of instruction. A classification of community college programs and services and a glossary of terms are appended. (JP)
