Project RUN: Handicapped Children's Early Education Program. Final Report, September 1, 1976 to August 31, 1979.

The final report describes Project RUN, funded by the Handicapped Children's Early Education Program to develop a model demonstration program for multiply handicapped children from birth to 8 years or functioning below fourth grade level in a low income rural area. Objectives and accomplishments are reported for the following program components: services to children (to identify preschool age multiply handicapped children, to integrate children from two types of settings, to provide an intensive educational therapeutic program, to provide comprehensive assessments, and to develop individualized program plans); services to parents and surrogate parents (to offer parents training and to train attendent staff in techniques for use with institutionalized children); demonstrations; dissemination; training; coordination strategies; advisory council; staff development; and evaluation. Appendixes, which make up the bulk of the document, include tables on enrollment data; sample forms for an example student; demonstration data; newspaper clippings and newsletters on the project; a report on project materials; a project onsite training schedule; correspondence with agencies, organizations, and doctors; and a summary of parent responses to the program.
