A Survey of Four-Year Colleges' and Universities' Graduate Follow-Up Processes.
Spooner, Kendrick L.
A survey of four-year colleges' and universities' graduate follow-up procedures was conducted to (1) establish what type of follow-up systems are used, (2) determine what commitment the administration of the institutions has to implementing a graduate follow-up system, (3) determine to what extent the institutions are planning changes in their student follow-up practice, (4) determine how current data are collected, and (5) determine how helpful a centralized graduate follow-up system would be to various colleges and universities. An on-site survey and interviews of various professional staff at each institution revealed that there were three basic types of systems identified. The first of these systems were the follow-up systems developed by the institutional research or placement divisions that collected information pertaining to occupational title and student major. The second type was the graduate follow-up completed by the department or schools with an institution that primarily impacted on program improvement and program evaluation. The third type of follow-up study was the ad hoc study completed by some institutions. (Summaries of the interviews at each institution are included, and the survey instruments are appended.) (LRA)
