Development of Curriculum and Instructional Materials for Young Farm Wives Chapters. Final Report.
Welton, Richard F.
The major purpose of this project was to determine the need for and the development of curriculum and instructional materials for members of young farm wives chapters. Young farm wives advisors, young farm wives officers, and young farm wives members were surveyed using a needs assessment questionnaire. The list of instructional areas identified in the questionnaire was derived through communications with Kansas young farm wives advisors, chapter officers and members, as well as selected members of the Kansas State University Agricultural Education and College of Agriculture staff. In addition, a series of educational activities was included for evaluation by the respondents. Questionnaire data revealed that farm management had the largest percentage indicated for any area. Consumer education was the second highest selected instructional area with a total percentage of twenty-seven. Ranking number three and four were the instructional areas of family relations and estate planning. Among other findings was that the vocational agriculture classroom was viewed as the location where instruction should take place. Eighty-seven percent of the respondents indicated a need for a resource personnel directory. (Appended material includes the project questionnaire, summary data tables, and a resource personnel directory for Kansas young farmers and young farm wives chapters.) (LRA)
